About the Movie

Fidaa (transl. Spellbound) is a critically acclaimed Telugu-language romantic drama directed by Sekhar Kammula, starring Sai Pallavi and Varun Tej in their iconic performances.

Released in 2017 and later dubbed in Hindi, Fidaa tells the heart-touching love story of Varun, an NRI medical student from the USA, and Bhanu, a spirited village girl from Telangana. Their journey explores cultural differences, misunderstandings, sacrifices and emotional maturity.

The film became a blockbuster with ₹91 crore worldwide on a budget of just ₹13 crore and won several Filmfare & SIIMA awards.

Story Summary

Varun is an NRI living in Texas, USA. He comes to India for his brother’s wedding and meets Bhanu, the bride’s younger sister. Bhanu is lively, confident and loves her village deeply. Varun and Bhanu slowly develop feelings for each other but never express them.

A misunderstanding leads Bhanu to believe Varun is planning to marry someone else. Heartbroken, she distances herself from him. Varun returns to the USA but cannot forget her and eventually confesses his love. However, this leads to arguments and emotional conflict.

Bhanu travels to the USA to help her pregnant sister. During this time, Varun and Bhanu clash again, but later he admits how deeply he loves her.

During a road trip across the USA, Bhanu realizes Varun’s genuine affection. Before leaving for India, she runs to him at the airport and hugs him with tears — proving she still loves him.

Varun then travels to India to propose. Bhanu’s father blesses their relationship. Bhanu hesitates to leave her village, but later discovers that Varun has sacrificed his US medical seat to settle in her village as a doctor.

The film ends with the couple happily beginning their life together in India.
