Hollow Man is a 2000 American science-fiction horror thriller directed by Paul Verhoeven and written by Andrew W. Marlowe. The film stars Kevin Bacon, Elisabeth Shue, Josh Brolin, Kim Dickens, and Greg Grunberg. The story follows Sebastian Caine, a brilliant but arrogant scientist who develops a serum that can make living beings invisible. When he tests it on himself, his transformation spirals out of control, leading to madness, violence, and terror for his colleagues.
Plot Summary
Sebastian Caine, a gifted molecular biologist working on a secret military project, discovers a serum that renders subjects invisible. While his team successfully tests the experiment on animals, Sebastian grows impatient and illegally experiments on himself. At first, he enjoys the thrill of being unseen, using his invisibility for pranks and voyeuristic pleasures. However, his colleagues—including ex-girlfriend Linda McKay (Shue) and Matt Kensington (Brolin)—quickly realize his behavior is becoming increasingly dangerous.
When the reversal process fails, Sebastian is trapped in his invisible state. As paranoia and power consume him, he turns violent, murdering team members one by one. His descent into madness forces Linda and Matt into a deadly battle for survival inside the laboratory. The climax unfolds in a fiery showdown where the team must destroy Sebastian before he destroys them.
