Short Summary

Death Race: Beyond Anarchy is a follow-up in the Death Race remake series. Set inside a massive, privately run prison known as the Sprawl, the film centers on the underground motorized competition called the Death Race and the violent ruler who controls it — a figure known only as Frankenstein. The story follows an undercover agent who enters the prison and the race with orders to stop Frankenstein, but the lines between duty and life inside the Sprawl blur as the agent becomes drawn into the inmates' world.

Detailed Plot

The Sprawl is a gigantic privatized penitentiary that holds hundreds of thousands of inmates and operates almost like its own lawless city. For many inside, the most dangerous spectacle is the Death Race — a brutal competition where drivers use armored vehicles and weapons to battle for supremacy. When the corporation that runs the prison hires a new warden, he is given one clear mission: shut down the Death Race and eliminate its champion, Frankenstein.

Early on, Frankenstein proves why he rules the Sprawl. After winning another contest, his followers fend off a prison SWAT team sent to capture or kill him. The attack backfires as Frankenstein’s loyal fighters slaughter the intruders and broadcast a warning to the warden: anyone sent after Frankenstein will be killed.

A bus of newly sentenced prisoners arrives at the Sprawl. Each new arrival is given a handful of silver coins — the currency of survival in this place. Shortly after they disembark, they are set upon by a local gang called "the Cops," led by a racer named Johnny Law. Most of the newcomers are slaughtered, but two survivors refuse to hand over their coins. Those two fight back with surprising skill and escape the slaughter.

The male survivor, Connor, attracts attention after his fight and is led to Frankenstein’s bar. There, he meets people who run and influence the Death Race, including Baltimore Bob, a veteran who knows how the contests work and who pulls strings across the Sprawl. Connor proves himself again in front of Frankenstein by fighting off henchmen and surviving the harsh initiation rituals of the prison.

Connor wants to compete in the Death Race and is put through qualifying trials. He climbs towering obstacles, takes part in dangerous trials, and defeats vicious opponents, including a brutal fighter called the Butcher. As he wins respect and prepares his racer with Baltimore Bob’s help, Connor also forms a quiet bond with Jane, the bartender, who becomes a rare source of kindness in his new life.

The stakes rise when Frankenstein publicly reveals Connor’s true identity: he is Sergeant Connor Gibson, an undercover special operative planted to assassinate Frankenstein. Rather than simply executing him on the spot, Frankenstein allows Connor to take part in the Death Race — a lethal contest where the victor claims rule over the Sprawl.

On race day, the field thins as cars and riders are taken out one by one. Frankenstein cruelly uses Jane as a human shield — forcing her to ride as Connor’s co-pilot is held captive — to prevent Connor from acting freely. The race becomes a tense duel between Frankenstein’s dominance and Connor’s determination.

As the final laps unfold, Connor runs out of fuel and faces certain death when Frankenstein drives to finish him off. At the last moment, Gypsy Rose — another racer who has her own secret — crashes into Frankenstein’s vehicle, allowing Connor to reach Jane. Gypsy Rose then shoots Frankenstein, ending his rule. She reveals she is also an agent sent to extract targets; she signals that extraction is coming.

Connor, torn between returning to his former life and staying with the people who accepted him in the Sprawl, chooses to remain. Baltimore Bob urges him to assume Frankenstein’s mantle and rule the prison, and Connor takes the iconic mask and coat. By taking on Frankenstein’s identity, Connor wins the Death Race and effectively becomes the new leader of the Sprawl — a ruler who once came with a mission but now appears to stay and protect the world he infiltrated.
